The music function won't work!

I bought the Fisher Price Nature Bearries mobile yesterday after searching far and wide for it, eagerly assembled it when I got home - only to find that it doesn't play music - at all! The mobile spins and the light functions work - just no music. I thought it might be the batteries so I went out and bought a more expensive brand but that didn't help. Does anyone know what the problem may be? I love this mobile and I desperately want it to work!!!...
